Mr Lynch's Prophecy
Book 16
After a visit to the local picture house, Private Peterson finds himself lying in an alley, a knife in his back, and no memory of what has occurred.
Worse, a woman is found stabbed nearby and the police think Peterson might have killed her. Disturbed by his own, personal demons, Peterson is close to confessing to a crime he has not committed, when Clara steps in to discover the real culprit.
But her investigations will reveal a far more dangerous situation than she could ever have imagined.
Meanwhile, on the other side of town, the Brighton Institute for Astronomy has a far less dramatic problem on its hands when a mysterious box appears in the library. Said to contain prophecies made by the late director, the Institute staff are divided as to how to deal with this oddity. Clara is called in to supply an unbiased opinion on the box, but dealing with academic politics is a tricky matter.
